Dot for Google Meet
Google Meet runs in your browser, and Dot runs beside it: a desktop app on your Mac, Windows PC or Ubuntu computer that notices when a Meet call starts, hears it through your computer, and answers a question put to it with “Hi Dot”. When the call ends, Dot writes the notes.
There is no browser extension to install and nothing to add to your Google account, and it works whether or not your organisation pays for Google Workspace.

How it works
- STEP 1
Install Dot by your browser
Download Dot for your Mac, Windows PC or Ubuntu computer and sign in. Your browser needs no extension.
- STEP 2
Open the Meet call
Open the Meet link from the invitation. As soon as the browser has your microphone, Dot offers to listen in.

Find the notes in Dot
Ask with “Hi Dot” while the call runs. Afterwards the notes are in Dot, not in Google Drive, on the meeting’s own page.
Meet in the browser, Dot beside it
A browser starting to use your microphone is how Dot knows a Meet call has begun, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Arc or Chromium. It then offers to listen in, and hears the call through your computer’s sound, whichever tab it is in.
The small Dot overlay floats over the browser with the agenda item, the latest caption and a box to ask in. It is kept out of screen captures, so presenting a tab or your whole screen in Meet does not show it.
With or without Google Workspace
Gemini’s notes in Meet are part of Google Workspace. Dot does not depend on Workspace: it works in a Meet call from a personal Google account as well as a Workspace one, and in a call somebody else organised.
Linking your Google Calendar is optional. With it, Dot shows your next meeting a minute before it starts, with Join & listen in, and names the recording after the event.
Dot and Gemini in Google Meet

Questions
Which browsers does Dot work with for Google Meet?
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Arc and Chromium, where your computer has them. Dot notices the call when the browser starts using your microphone, and offers to listen in.
Do I need Google Workspace to use Dot with Meet?
No. Dot works in a Meet call whichever Google account it is on, personal or Workspace, because it listens from your computer rather than through Google.
Can Gemini and Dot take notes in the same Meet call?
Yes. They do not know about each other: Gemini’s notes go to Google Drive, and Dot’s stay in Dot.
Will the others in the Meet call see Dot?
No. Dot adds nothing to the call and shows the other people nothing, so let them know you are using it, as you would before recording. In many places the law requires it.
Does Dot work on a Chromebook?
No. Dot is a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Ubuntu, and there is no version for ChromeOS.
