An AI note taker that listens from your computer, not from a bot in the call
Dot takes the notes in your Teams, Zoom and Google Meet calls without a bot joining them. It listens from a desktop app on your own computer and, when the call ends, writes notes grouped by topic, with the outcome in one line and the next steps with who took each one on.
It also answers questions during the call, so it is more than a note taker: say “Hi Dot” and ask about something said earlier, or in last week’s meeting.

How it works

Download, then sign in
Install Dot on your Mac, Windows PC or Ubuntu computer. The first time, allow what it asks for, so it can hear the whole call.

Choose Listen in
When a call starts, Dot offers to listen in. Or start it yourself with Start listening, from its icon in the menu bar or system tray.
- STEP 3
Read the notes
When the call ends, Dot writes the notes from the whole transcript and puts them on the meeting’s page.

No bot in the call
Many note takers join the meeting as a participant: they appear in the list, wait to be let in, and hear the call from the meeting service. Dot takes the other road. It listens from your own computer, so there is nothing to admit and nothing in the participant list, and it works the same on Teams, Zoom and Meet.
That also means Dot says nothing to the room. Before you start, tell the people on the call that Dot is taking notes; in many places the law requires it.
What the notes look like
Dot writes them once the call has ended, from the whole transcript. Above them sits the outcome in one line, and a meeting that had no name is given one.
- A short heading for each topic, with the points under it kept to a line or so.
- A list of next steps at the end: each task in bold, with the person who took it on in brackets, where somebody did.
- A point is put to a name only when the transcript shows who said it.
- An offer to help is not turned into somebody’s task.
- Where a figure was corrected, the corrected one is written; where the room did not agree, the notes say so rather than pick a side.
- Passwords, keys and phone numbers read out in the call are left out.
What it keeps, and for how long
The transcript and the notes, stored in the region your organisation chose when it signed up. Not the audio: the call is transcribed as it happens, and the words are what is kept.
Dot also notes what is shared in the meeting window, at most every ten seconds, so it can answer questions about it. It keeps a short written note of what was shown, never the picture, and your organisation can turn this off.
Transcripts are kept for as long as your organisation sets. Deleting a meeting deletes its transcript, its notes and everything made from them.
Questions
What is an AI note taker?
An app that listens to a meeting, transcribes it and writes up the notes, so nobody has to take them by hand. Some join the call as a bot. Dot listens from a desktop app on your own computer instead.
Will the other people on the call know Dot is taking notes?
Not from Dot. It is not in the participant list and posts nothing in the chat, so tell them yourself, as you would before recording. In many places the law requires it.
Does Dot record the audio of the call?
It transcribes the audio as it happens and keeps the words, not a recording. There is no audio file, because none is made.
Can I change the notes after the call?
Yes. Edit them on the meeting’s page in Dot, and the earlier version is kept. They stay a draft for half an hour after they are written, unless your organisation sets another time, and sending them to somebody makes them final.
Can Dot take notes when everybody is in one room?
Yes. Start it yourself with Start meeting, and when Dot says the other side of the call is not being recorded, choose That’s fine, I’m in the room. It then transcribes the room through your microphone and tells the voices apart as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on.
Does Dot work without an internet connection?
No. The call is transcribed as it happens, over the internet, so Dot needs a connection while it listens.
