Dot for Zoom meetings
Dot works in Zoom calls without going through Zoom at all. It runs as a desktop app on your Mac, Windows PC or Ubuntu computer, hears the meeting the way you do, and answers a question put to it with “Hi Dot”; when the Zoom call ends, it writes the notes.
There is no Zoom app to add and no Zoom account to connect, and it works the same whoever hosts and whatever Zoom plan the meeting is on.

How it works
- STEP 1
Install Dot, keep Zoom
Put Dot on the same computer as Zoom, whether a Mac, a Windows PC or Ubuntu, and sign in. Zoom itself stays exactly as it is.
- STEP 2
Start or join in Zoom
Open the meeting in Zoom as you normally do. Once Zoom is using your microphone, Dot offers to listen in.
- STEP 3
Get the notes after
Ask with “Hi Dot” whenever you need to. When the Zoom call ends, Dot writes the notes, with the outcome in one line.
Nothing to add to Zoom
Dot does not use a Zoom app or your Zoom account. It hears the call the way you do, through your computer: your microphone for you, and your computer’s sound for everybody else. So it works in a meeting you host and in one you were invited to, on any Zoom plan.
You may come across Dot for Zoom in the Zoom App Marketplace. That app is for an organisation that has Dot join its Zoom calls as a participant, which is switched on for it; the desktop app needs none of it.
Telling the people in the call
Zoom asks the host to approve an app that joins a meeting to record it. Dot does not join, so Zoom shows no prompt and no recording notice for it, and Dot shows the other people nothing either. Telling them is up to you, as it would be before recording on your own computer, and in many places the law requires it.

Questions
Do I need to connect my Zoom account to Dot?
No. The desktop app asks Zoom for nothing. Connecting a Zoom account is only for an organisation that has had Dot switched on to join its Zoom calls as a participant.
Does it work if I am not the host?
Yes. Dot listens from your computer, so it works in any Zoom call you are in, whoever hosts it. Let the others know you are using it.
Can I use Zoom’s web client instead of the app?
Dot will listen in, but it recognises the Zoom app and reads the names of speakers from it. With Zoom in a browser, Dot offers to listen in once the browser has the microphone, and the transcript may be without names.
Is Dot a replacement for Zoom’s AI Companion?
It does a different job. Zoom’s AI summarises each meeting inside Zoom. Dot answers questions during the call, reads your earlier meetings on Teams and Meet as well as Zoom, and writes notes that stay in Dot. Nothing stops you using both in the same call.
